How to Apply

Step 5

Setting the Makeup with Loose Setting Powder

How to Apply

Setting any crème makeup performs two very important tasks; first of all it sets the makeup, and secondly, it prepares the skin for the dry products being applied like eye colours, eye shadows, and blushes.

Setting the makeup is extremely important. This aids in keeping the makeup on the face and helps to prevent moisture from evading the foundation through humidity or perspiration. Done correctly, with the right product, setting the makeup is easily accomplished.

Setting also prepares the makeup for dry products. A clear layer of powder, worked into the cream foundation, will give the dry colour products a powder layer as a base rather than a cream layer. A powder layer will enable the client to have smooth application of the dry product rather than “colour-grabbing”.

Tech Tip: Sometimes your client does not want to wear a foundation, but does want to wear a little cheek colour or blush to promote a healthy appearance. Before the dry cheek colour application, powder your face correctly, and then apply your dry products. You dry products will go on very smooth, and last longer.

DMK Cosmetics has three types of finely milled loose powder. Its granule size is about 2.5 microns as opposed to larger powder particles that are 6 to 12 microns. This means you use less powder and the powder particles are able to penetrate the foundation rather than lay on top of the foundation, which can result in a caked appearance. DMK Loose Setting Powder comes in three variations:

Clear Loose Setting Powder – A perfectly clear setting powder than can be used on any skin tone.

Light Translucent – A light skin tone translucent colour for Caucasian and Asian skin tones.

Dark Translucent– A rich tan powder especially designed for darker skin tones. Dark Translucent contains no heavy red or orange pigments and will not change the colour of the foundation.

Steps for the Proper Application of ALL Loose Powders

How to Apply

Open up the powder container and place a small amount of loose powder directly onto the centre of the puff.

How to Apply

With both hands on each side of the powder puff, gently fold the puff together a roll the puff edges so the powder is distributed evenly throughout the powder puff. (Similar to working soap in a wash rag)

How to Apply

Hold the puff to your face and gently roll the puff across the entire face. This process pushes loose powder from the powder puff to makeup. This pushing-rolling motion pushes the powder into the makeup thus setting the makeup.

1) Continue powdering until the entire face is powdered. Don’t worry about the excess powder you see on the face. This excess means the makeup has absorbed as much loose powder as it can.

2) Remove the excess with the powder brush. Take a DMK Power Brush and remove the excess loose powder by gently brushing away the loose powder on top of the makeup.

Tech Tip: Always remove excess powder with a powder brush. Brushes are designed to apply color to the face. They will even apply powder to the face, but correct powder demands the loose powder be pushed into the makeup foundation in order to “set” the makeup. A brush will not structurally push makeup into the foundation, only pick up makeup.
